Fatty Degenerative Osteonecrosis of the Mandibular Bone
The Often Hidden Lesions in Bone That We Know How to Treat at BDS
Also known as "cavitation," fatty degenerative osteonecrosis, or "fatty degenerative osteonecrosis of the jaw" in English, was initially identified by pathologist Jerry Bouquot in 1992. Since then, it has been the subject of extensive studies that have contributed to establishing a solid scientific foundation in this field, with Dr. Johann Lechner standing out as a recognized authority worldwide. This disorder is characterized by the degeneration of bone tissue and the accumulation of adipose tissue in the mandible or maxilla, which can lead to significant complications for the patient's oral and overall health. A precise understanding of this condition and its proper management are essential to prevent its progression and minimize adverse effects. (Photo on the left: Prof. J.E. Bouquot).
At BDS, we are experts in treating these types of lesions, which often occur in the areas of the wisdom teeth. If you would like to learn more, feel free to contact our team. We would be happy to assist you! (Photo on the left: Prof. J. Lechner)
